Utopia SEO Settings Complete Guide | Search Engine Optimization Explained

Introduction: What Utopia SEO Settings Can Do

The Utopia WordPress theme includes built-in SEO Settings that handle search engine optimization and social sharing—no plugin required.
You can configure title tags, meta descriptions, OGP, Twitter Cards, structured data, and site verification from a single screen.

This guide explains every option in Utopia → SEO Settings and provides recommended values so you can configure SEO confidently, even if you’re new to it.

  1. OGP / SNS Share Settings

Default OGP Image

What it does
Sets the image shown when your site is shared on Facebook, LINE, Slack, X (Twitter), and similar platforms. This image is used when a post has no featured image.

Recommended settings
・Always set one: It significantly improves how your links look when shared
・Recommended size: 1200×630px (aspect ratio 1.91:1)
・Format: JPG or PNG, ideally under 1MB

How to set
Click “Select Image” and choose from the Media Library or upload a new image.

Facebook App ID

What it does
Enter your Facebook App ID to enable Facebook Insights tracking for shares and engagement.

Recommended settings
・Most sites: Leave blank (not required for OGP display)
・SNS marketing focus: Create an app in Facebook for Developers and enter the App ID

  1. Twitter / X Card Settings

Twitter / X Username

What it does
Specifies your site’s official X (Twitter) account. It appears in the twitter:site meta tag and shows your @username on shared cards.

Recommended settings
・If you have an account: Enter the username without @ (e.g., utopia_theme)
・If not: Leave blank

  1. SEO Advanced (Title, Description, Noindex)

Title Separator

What it does
The character that separates the page title from the site name in browser tabs and search results.

Example
“Post Title | Site Name” — the “|” is the separator

Recommended settings
・Pipe (|): Most common; recommended
・Hyphen (-): Cleaner, minimal look
・Tilde (~): Softer, casual feel

Front Page Title Tag

What it does
Defines the format of the title tag on your homepage.

Available placeholders
・%site_title%: Site name (Settings → General)
・%tagline%: Tagline
・%sep%: Separator character

Recommended setting
%site_title% %sep% %tagline%
→ e.g., “Utopia | Build Your Ideal Site, Easily”

Front Page Description

What it does
The meta description for your homepage. Shown as the snippet in search results.

Recommended settings
・120–160 characters that clearly describe your site
・If left blank, the tagline is used instead

Front Page Keywords

What it does
Sets meta keywords for the homepage. Use commas to separate multiple keywords.

Note
Google largely ignores meta keywords for ranking, but some search engines and tools still use them.

Recommended settings
・Enter 3–5 main keywords, comma-separated
・Example: WordPress theme, business site, landing page

Use Front Page Keywords When Post Keywords Are Empty

What it does
When a post has no custom keywords, use the front page keywords instead.

Recommended settings
・Checked: If you prefer not to set keywords per post
・Unchecked: If you set keywords individually in the post editor (Meta Keywords field)

Search Results & 404 Page Titles

What it does
Defines the title format for the site search results page and the 404 error page.

Recommended settings
・Search results: Search results: %search_phrase% %sep% %site_title% (includes the search term)
・404: 404: Page Not Found %sep% %site_title%

Feed Noindex

What it does

Recommended settings

Post, Page, and LP Noindex

What it does
Adds noindex so the specified content types are excluded from search results.

Recommended settings
・Posts: Usually No. Use Yes for member-only blogs
・Pages: Usually No. Use Yes for draft-like pages
・LP: Use Yes if you don’t want landing pages in search results

Redirect Attachment to File (Don’t Use Media Pages)

What it does
When someone visits an attachment page (e.g., image permalink), they are 301 redirected to the actual file URL.

Recommended settings
・Yes: To simplify site structure and avoid thin media pages
・No: To keep attachment pages as-is

Category & Tag Noindex

What it does
Controls whether category and tag archive pages are indexed.

Recommended settings
・Category: No if it’s main content; Yes if you have many thin category pages
・Tag: Same logic—Yes if tag pages are thin or low value

Disable Author Archive / Author Noindex

What it does
・Disable: Redirects author archive URLs to the homepage
・Noindex: Keeps author pages but tells search engines not to index them

Recommended settings
・Single-author sites: Enable Disable to remove author archives
・Multi-author media: Consider Noindex only if you keep author pages

Date Archive & Custom Post Type Archive Noindex

What it does
Controls indexing of date-based and custom post type archive pages.

What it does
Generates an XML sitemap for search engines. Configure details in Utopia → XML Sitemap Settings.

Recommended settings
・Enable: Recommended for almost all sites
・Submit the sitemap URL in Google Search Console to improve indexing

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. What's the best length for title tags and meta descriptions?
A. Titles: around 30–40 characters. Meta descriptions: 120–160 characters. Longer text may be truncated in search results.
Q. Does noindex completely remove a page from search?
A. Yes. Pages with noindex are instructed not to be indexed, so they won’t appear in search results.
